The Australian Automobile Association (AAA) has been authorised by the Australian government to issue IDPs, and each state or territory motoring club processes the application.

Note: Service NSW is now issuing IDPs on behalf of NRMA at the Wynyard Service Centre. You can purchase your IDP over the counter at the service centre.
Eligibility
To be eligible you must:
- be over 18 years of age
- hold a provisional or unrestricted Australian driver licence.

- a recent passport size photo (taken no more than 6 months ago)
- your payment.
If you're applying in person at Wynyard Service Centre, you need:
- your Australian driver licence
- a recent passport size photo (pre-cut to single photoandtaken no more than 6 months ago)
- to agree to the terms and conditions
- your payment.
How to apply
- Select the 'Apply online' button.
- Ensure that your state is selected.
- Select 'Start IDP online application'.
- Fill in the required details, upload the necessary documentation, and make your payment.
- Your IDP will be posted to you, and arrive within 5 to 7 working days.
If you don't wish to apply online, you can download and complete the Application for International Driving Permit – PDF and post your application with payment, to the details on the form. Alternatively, you can visit your nearest State motoring club.

An International Driver’s Permit (IDP) carries your identification details in nine languages and allows you to drive overseas without further tests or applications.
Have a look at the International Driving Permit Directory to find out if your destination requires or recommends an IDP. The directory also provides key information about driving in that particular country, such as which side of the road you drive on, the name of the local Automobile Club, reciprocal services for which you are covered whilst holding an active Automobile Club membership and their contact details.
